Rundown on final soccer games

The HSRC Patriots finished up their 2010 soccer season with two more losses, but the team was playing better and better as the season finished. If they had another game or two, they might have come up with a win.

On the Monday, October 4, the Patriots played Deer Creek for the second time of the season. This time was a little different, partly because the boys played a little better and partly because Deer Creek used their superstars more in supporting and passing roles rather than attacking. Even with that, however, the boys still lost convincingly, 7-1. Better than the 10-0 loss the first time, but still indicating that we have a ways to go to be competitive with the better teams that we play. On Friday, the game was against Southside Baptist in Oak Lawn. The boys played very well, but still came up short, 2-1. I was able to watch about a half hour of this one, and I could see the improvement from the early part of the year. Southside's goalie was very good, and we had trouble getting a good shot off. Henry scored the only goal of the game, and I was told that he also scored the first one of the year.

Next Thursday, October 21, is the season-ending banquet at Family of Faith Church in Monee. This will be for both the junior high soccer team and the high school flag football team. We are looking forward to seeing the teams and their families there.
