Since it doesn't really count, I kinda forgot about the game the girls had last Saturday against New Jerusalem up in Batavia. A lot of the teams we play, play New Jerusalem, but we really didn't know too much about them. We do know that they're pretty good, and that it's a church team, not a school team. They heard about us and wanted to play us, but the game didn't come together until the game we just got with Trinity of Roselle fell apart and the Trinity people arranged this game to replace it. Regardless of all this, we traveled all the way to Batavia to play them, and it was a good game. They said that they were missing some players, as we were, so maybe it wasn't like it would have been had we both been fully represented. Anyway, the game started out as if it might be a 0-0 tie. Both teams played solid defense and the offenses appeared to be feeling out the opponent, and the score was 2-2 at the end of the quarter. Then the girls started getting a better feel for the game. NJ was a little more comfortable, making shots inside and outside. NJ outscored the Patriots 14-11 in the quarter to lead at half by three. #10 was throwing up shots like no other opponent we played, but not a lot were going in. In the meantime, #3 was much more efficient with her shots, but Coach Boss had noticed her skill and had gone to a box-and-one on her. She finished with eleven points on thirteen shots, while #10 had eighteen points, but took thirty-three shots to get it.
NJ outscored the HSRC by two in the third to lead by five. NJ started out the fourth on fire. #'s 3 and 10 were making their shots, while our girls stared out cold. I believe NJ stretched out the lead to eleven, 34-23, before the Patriots made one final run but ran out of time before they could catch them. Final: 34-29. Overall, a good, entertaining game. We may add them to the schedule in future years.
Rachel led in scoring with ten. Becca added eight, Alyssa five, Kara four and Carolyn two. Carolyn and Rachel led with eight rebounds each and Becca had six. Kara had six assists and Becca added four steals.
