This afternoon the Patriots traveled to Glenwood School for their fifth game of the season. Two games ago our guys came very close to winning, losing by one after trailing 3-0 at halftime. That game we were without Bobby for the first half; today we were without him the whole game. Despite that, the boys took away their first win with a whole squad in the history of the program, winning 2-0.
It was an interesting game. The majority of the play was on our side of the field. Glenwood was faster as a team than the Patriots, and were a bit more aggressive. Shot after shot was taken by Glenwood and most of them were on goal. Thankfully we have a very good goalie. I wish I would have counted the number of saves Blake had in the game. I'm sure it was at least fifteen. Of those, three were shots penalty shots. Not one shot got past Blake; he was a wall. It did help that all of the shots on goal were low. Every high shot they took went over the net. But if their was such a thing, and I had a vote, I would vote for Blake for player of the game. Noel scored toward the end of the first half and then early in the second. I don't think there were more than two other shots by the Patriots the entire game. We didn't get a lot of opportunities, but we made them count.
Other players who shone tonight were Peter and Caleb for their excellent clearing kicks on defense; Mark and Sam for their energy; and of course Noel for scoring both goals and helping out on defense later in the game.
Our next game is at Cornerstone of Chicago Heights on Thursday. Check the calendar at fofchomeschool.org for the time and location. See you there.
